Congenital malformations induced by ethyl-urethan in mouse embryos.

چکیده
Among the various exogenous agents inducing developmental anomalies in higher mammals, administration of chemicals to pregnant animals may be a suitable means for the detection of the mechanism of teratogenesis. Sinclair ('50) recognized an abnormality of the nervous system of embryos after treatment of pregnant mice of an albino stock for several days from 7-8th day of gestation, with ethyl-urethan, but a further detailed study on the teratogenic effect of this chemical remained to be performed. Hence, our study to be reported here was undertaken to observe the relation between the period of application of this chemical and. its teratogenic effects on the embryos of the pregnant mice.

P-26: The Effects of Interferon-Gamma onCarbamazepine-Induced Fetal Malformations inMouse Fetus
Background: One in every 250 newborns is exposed to antiepileptic drugs, inutero .The risk of congenital malformations in newborns, prenatally exposed to antiepileptic drugs (AEDs), is around 5% which is 2 to 2.5 times that of general population; while carbamazepine (CBZ) and valproate (VPA) still provide the treatment of choice in most forms of epilepsy, being efficacious in approximately two-...
متن کاملSimilarity of the mechanism of chemical carcinogen-initiated teratogenesis and carcinogenesis in mice.
A maximum tolerated dose (15 mug/g) of the carcinogen 4-nitroquinoline 1-oxide (4NQO) induced neither fetal deaths nor malformations when given to pregnant ICR/Jcl mice at the sensitive stages (Days 9 to 11) for the induction of malformations, although these embryotoxicities were detected with urethan and X-ray. This may not be due to the lack of teratogenic actions of 4NQO, but to the difficul...
متن کاملCIGARETTE SMOKE/ETHANOL-INDUCED LIMB DEFECTS IN MOUSE EMBRYOS
We have produced a spectrum of limb defects in developing mouse embryos by exposing the mother to smoke from cigarettes with different nicotine concentrations, ethanol, and a combination of ethanol and cigarette smoke. The critical time of exposure was determined to be during day 10 of gestation (vaginal plug=day 0). This time is prior to the critical events which occur between the apical e...
متن کاملPreventive Effect of Vitamin B6 on Developmental Toxicity of Carbamazepine in Mice
Objective(s) Carbamazepine (CBZ) is an antiepileptic drug that is used widely for the treatment of epileptic seizures. Neural tube defects (NTDs), growth retardation, and nail hypoplasia are the most common features of teratogenic effects of this drug. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of vitamin B6 on the developmental toxicity of CBZ on mice. Materials and Methods Sixty B...
متن کاملComparative Inhibiting Effects of Methylxanthines on Urethan-induced Tumors, Malformations, and Presumed Somatic Mutations in Mice1
The inhibiting effects of methylxanthines on urethan-induced lung tumors, malformations, and presumed somatic mutations in mice were studied to determine the contribution of mutational and physiological changes to chemically induced neoplasia and malformation. When young adult or pregnant ICR/Jc1 mice were treated with urethan and then methylxanthines were given, caffeine (1,3,7-trimethylxanthi...
